마빈의 학교친구 케이시가 팔꿈치에 뽀뽀를 하면 여자로 변하고
다시 뽀뽀를 하게되면 남자로 돌아온다는 뻥?같지만 한번 해보고 싶은 생각에
집에와서 마빈은 한번 시도해보기 시작합니다.
그러다 결국 포기하고 잠이 들었는데, 이불에 뒤영켜 결국 뽀뽀를 하게 되고
놀라서 일어나게 됩니다.
마빈이 여자로 변한걸까요?
그리고 다시 잠든 마빈 꿈속에서 야구를 하게 되는데
타석에 들어서서 방망이를 앞뒤로 흔들다가
갑자기 심판이 유니폼이 아니라면서 이 게임에 참여할 수 없다고 합니다.
마빈이 드레스를 입고 있네요?!?
"Does it ( matter ) which elbow you kiss?" he asked. - 중요하다.
"Who's ( jabber )ing?" asked Mrs. North. - 떠들다.
"( Oh my gosh )!" said Casey. - 맙소사(=oh my god, oh brother)
She ( bit ) her finger. - 깨물다(bite-bit-bitten)
"I had an ( itch )," said Marvin" - 가려움
He went outside to ( recess ). - 구석진[으슥한] 곳
** 01권: Marvin finished writing just as the bell rang for ( recess ). - 쉬는시간
"I don't want it," Marvin ( assure )d her. - ~을 확실하게 하다
** assurance: 보험; 확언
"I'm ( telling )!" Linzy snapped. - 일러바치다.
* snap - (보통 화난 목소리로) 딱딱거리다[톡 쏘다]
** 02권: "I'm ( telling on you )!" she ( bawl )ed.
*** tell on somebody: ~를 고자질하다
*** bawl: 고함치다.(snap이랑 비슷하겠죠 아마?)
Marvin watched his sister do a ( somersault ) in the hall. - 공중제비
It ( bug )ged him that he couldn't do it. - 괴롭히다.
Then he ( flop )ped back the other way. - 털썩 떨어지다.
** 매트하 04권: He ( prop )ped the pirate book in the sand. - 기대다
Suddenly his elbow was ( jerk )ed almost to his mouth - 홱 움직이다.

마빈이 놀라서 소리를 지르는 순간 엄마가 린지인지 알고 급하게 달려옵니다.
엄마는 마빈의 소리가 꼭 여자같았다며, 마빈을 더욱 불안하게 합니다.
그리고 자다 깬 린지 또한 마빈을 여자같다고 합니다.
린지는 사실 언니가 있었으면 좋겠다고 하네요. 이 장면 너무 재미있네요 ^^
밤새 팔꿈치에 뽀뽀하려다 결국 한숨도 못잔 마빈은 아침부터 여자가 된듯한 희한한 느낌을 받습니다.
머리라던지 옷이라던지 등등..
그리고 학교갈 시간이 되어 베스트 프렌드인 닉과 스튜어트가 오게 되고
학교에 가게 되는데, 마빈이 공을 가져오기로 했으나 잊어버렸네요.
그런데 마빈은 그전까진 쳐다도 보지 않던 여자들이 하려는 놀이들에 관심을 보이기 시작합니다.
정말 여자가 된걸까요? ㅎ
"No!" Marvin said ( right away ). - 즉시(=at once)
He couldn't ( tell ) his mother that he wore a dress! - 말하다.
** 03권: "I'm ( tell )ing !" Linzy snapped. - 일러바치다.
매트하에선 tell이 주로 "알다"로 많이 쓰였답니다. ^^
매트하 05권: He couldn't ( tell ) what they were thinking. - 알다
tell이 구별하다라는 뜻도 있습니다.
All the puppies looked the same, so I couldn't ( tell one from another ).
* tell A from B: A와 B를 구별하다.
Marry had a little ( lamb ). - 어린양
His ( fleece ) was white as snow. - 양털
In school his class had been learning about butterflies and ( moth )s. - 나방

주의해야할 keep v-ing와 keep from v-ing
He had to hold his head up to ( keep from falling ) into it.
* keep v-ing: v를 계속하다
* keep from v-ing: v를 못하게 막다
* keep A from v-ing: A가 v를 못하게 막다.
Ten minutes later Marvin was still staring at his bowl of soggy cereal.
* still: 아직도

머리와 드레스 등에 관심이 가기 시작합니다.
그리고 마빈의 선생님은 가끔 금요일마다 레이크파크에 아이들을 데리고 가네요.
거기선 짝을 지어야하는 미션이 있는데
마빈은 반에서 왕따여자애인 개츠비와 짝을 이루고
개츠비에게 wall-ball을 가르치려 하고
개츠비는 마빈에게 jacks를 알려주려고 하네요.
He ( concentrated on his work ).
* concentrate on something: ~에 더 많은 시간을 할애하다[집중하다]

다음에 오는 자음과 동화되어 im, il, ir, ig 등으로 변화합니다.

The skirts are called ( kilt )s. - 킬트(스코틀랜드 남성용 짧은 치마)
should가 must보다 약한 ~ 해야한다는 뜻도 있지만, 모든 조동사는 추측의 의미를 가지고 있습니다.
The plane should be landing ( right ) on schedule. - 바로
이 비행기는 바로 예정대로 정각에 착률될 것이다.
그 외에 should have p.p.: ~ 했어야했는데.. (못했단 이야기)
You should have submitted it by Jun 30.(6월 30일까지 그걸 제출했어야 했는데..)
가정법에도 should가 쓰입니다. 여기선 혹시라도 라는 뜻으로 쓰인다고 하네요.
구조는 IF + 주어 + should(=were to) + v 형태로 쓰인다고 합니다.
If war should(=were to) break out, what would you do?
만약 혹시 전쟁이 일어난다면, 너는 어떻게 하겠니?
If I should(=were to) fail this time, I will[would] try again.
만약 혹시 이번에도 실패한다해도 난 계속 노력할꺼야.

조용히 스파이더웹에 올라가서 여자와 남자에 대해서 생각을 하게 되고
무언가 깨달음을 얻게 됩니다.
이게 참 궁금해서 다음장도 읽어봐야겠네요~^^

여자와 남자의 차이점에 대해선 까맣게 잊어버리게 됩니다.
그리고 금요일 .. 혼자서 jacks를 하고 있는 게츠비에게 wall-ball을 가르쳐주네요~^^
